Alabama FC Hosts Alumni Games at Preseason Camp

RICHMOND, VA (September 4, 2018) – Every summer Alabama FC players reconvene after a short break to reunite, or meet for the first time, with their team. For one week, Alabama FC holds a team camp in which the coaches and teammates set the tone for another calendar season. Team camp traditionally ends with a “staff vs players” game; however, this year team camp ended a little differently.

Andrew Brower, Executive Director and Coach of the Girls ECNL U18/U19 team, explains, “We were pleased to host the first annual Boys and Girls Alumni Games to conclude our Team Camp Week. It was great for our younger players to see former Alabama FC players on site and playing in such a high-level match after a great week of training.”

The game was played at Rathmell on July 28th and pitted the current Boys ECNL U18/U19 and Girls ECNL U18/U19 teams against former Alabama FC all-stars. Food trucks and a water slide added to the excitement of the day, to make it a community event.

Alums from the graduating classes of ’93-’00 participated in the hometown competition, representing numerous colleges and universities between both boys and girls. The following programs were represented amongst the alums:

Girls ECNL Boys ECNL
Auburn University Auburn University at Montgomery
Clemson University Berry College
Furman University Mercer University
Mercer University United States Naval Academy
Samford University University of Alabama at Birmingham
University of Alabama University of Alabama in Huntsville
University of Alabama at Birmingham University of South Carolina Upstate
University of West Georgia University of Montevallo
Vanderbilt University University of West Alabama
Wofford College

We continue to celebrate ECNL players both past and present. As the Girls ECNL enters a decade of existence, the ECNL Sisterhood grows across the country both in the college game and the work force. The Boys ECNL is excited for year two and growing the legacy of the ECNL. We encourage you to share stories of ECNL Alums that have come back to their roots. The #proudECNLalums across the league continue to leave their mark as they tackle the next chapter of life.
