2018 NWSL Rosters Filled with ECNL Alums
RICHMOND, VA (March 22, 2018) – The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is the longest-running professional women’s soccer league in the country, and will kicked off their sixth season the weekend of March 24th and 25th. All nine NWSL teams have announced their 2018 rosters, with 46 ECNL Alums taking the field as professionals this season.
Nearly 25% of the entire league is made of Girls ECNL Alums, endorsing the incredible impact the Girls ECNL has had an on all levels of women’s soccer since its founding in 2009. The two most recent NWSL draft classes have been dominated by Girls ECNL Alums. Girls ECNL Alums made up 75% of the 2017 draft class and 65% of the 2018 draft class.
“The Girls ECNL provides a top-notch playing environment for the elite female player,” said Jen Winnagle, ECNL Commissioner. “To see the impact these Amazing Young Women have not only at the college level, but in the professional landscape solidifies the drive and efforts poured into the league. I look forward to following the 2018 NWSL Season and all of the proud ECNL Alums playing within it.”
Eight of the nine NWSL teams kicked off their 2018 campaign on March 24th and 25th, including 12 ECNL Alums who played in a rematch of the 2017 NWSL Championship between the North Carolina Courage and Portland Thorns.
