Getting to Know | Carly Beyar of SoccerGrlProbs
Q: How would you describe a typical day in your shoes?
A: I would say it is very planned out and full of determination to get the MOST out of the day. This could be why I LOVE scheduling out my days the night before and having a routine. I wake up at 6am, enjoy bulletproof coffee while skimming my inbox/reading (that alone time in the morning is crucial to me). Afterwards, I head to the gym or go outside to get a sweat on.
Depending on the day, I either walk to our office in Herald Square or I head to the train station to meet Shannon for when we are having shipping days out on Long Island (whilst crushing podcasts, it’s therapeutic). Work consists of us three tackling tasks left and right, having a good laugh and brainstorming our next content ideas.
After SoccerGrlProbs office/filming hours, I either enjoy time reading, experiment with cooking recipes or I am working with my health coach clients. My days are often hectic and jam-packed but I love every second of it. It is easy when you are passionate about what you do!
Oh…and I turn my phone over and go to sleep around 9pm. It’s safe to say I cherish my 8-hours 🙂
Q: What is your favorite memory from your soccer career?
A: Oh my goodness, this is such a hard question. I have to say in general, my favorite memories playing soccer were ALWAYS with Fairfield University and my Albertson Fury team…but if I were to pick one memory, this one comes to mind;
I tore my ACL as a junior in HS, during the first playoff game of the year. Standing on the sideline and being unable to help my team continue on throughout playoffs killed me. I felt helpless. It was the final playoff game before we went on to States and we were down by a goal. I remember supporting them while on crutches, watching my team work the hardest I’ve ever seen to come back and win the game with a minute to go. It wasn’t even about their skills, it was more about how much heart and soul they put into the game for one another. I don’t think I’ve ever been so proud to be apart of the team – I cried so hard of happiness.
Q: What is your favorite hometown restaurant?
A: Greek Town – If you live in Rockville Centre, NY..You need to try their lamb gyros.
Q: Who is your soccer idol?
A: Growing up, my soccer idol has and always will be Brandi Chastain. I remember how star struck I was when she signed my book after one of her games. In 2015, when I met her again with SoccerGrlProbs at the World Cup, I showed her a picture of my book that she signed when I was little – I GOT THE CHILLS! We’re all “besties” now.
Q: What is something that most people do not know about you?
A: That I have three business cards – One for being a CoFounder of SoccerGrlProbs, One for being a Holistic Health & Wellness Coach, and one for Chalk By Carly – a little side hustle gig that I created where I am a chalk board artist for some studios, restaurants, weddings, etc.
Q: Do you have any siblings? If so, tell us about him/her/them.
A: I have two other sisters; Alaina (27) and Julie (23). We all played for Albertson Fury and played collegiate soccer. Alaina played at Boston College, I played at Fairfield University and Julie played at Wheaton College – we all wore #17, have freckles and made a side health coaching business called Balanced Beyars Health Coaching.
Q: If you could fly anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: I would fly across to Europe to save money on all of the plane tickets that I want to take over there 😉 I have family in Paris, so I’d love to see them and explore the rest of the neighboring countries.
Q: What do you enjoy doing most with your family?
A: I enjoy working out, cooking, being active, making funny content and watching hilarious movies with my sisters. I also love playing Clue with my cousins – we make it so that we each have to speak in a different accent; It makes it HILARIOUS.
Q: What is your favorite quote? What does it mean to you?
A: “Girls compete, Women empower” – This quote is so important to me. It is a motto that I currently live by.
I don’t think we should live life by judging, comparing ourselves and bashing others just to make us feel better about our own lives- That isn’t benefiting anyone! We should be constantly empowering others around us, making them feel the best that they can. It not only boosts their confidence, but it will raise yours, too.
Q: How old were you when you started playing soccer?
A: 3 years old!
Q: Who is your favorite actor/actress?
A: Chris Pratt is bae (And I’m not talking about the “extremely good looking” Chris Pratt right now, I am talking about his character, “Andy” from the show, Parks and Rec. LOL )
Q: What is your favorite emoji?
A: Right now my most used emojis are; red heart, hugging emoji and a piece of cake….
Q: Rate yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 on how happy you are on a daily basis: (1 being the least, 10 being the happiest)
A: I would honestly have to say 8-10. Working with Alanna and Shannon for SoccerGrlProbs is always so much fun and then after work I am helping clients better their health and lives – what is not to be happy about!?
Q: If you could have one super power, what would you chose and why?
A: I think I would want the super power where you can EAT as much as you want and whatever you want…Do they have that super power?
Q: Do you have any superstitions that you follow? If so, what are they?
A: Although I don’t believe I am superstitious, I do have to have a hair tie on my wrist at all times otherwise I’ll feel naked and afraid.
Q: Who is your favorite author?
A: I don’t have a favorite author but I definitely have favorite books; most recent one is BODY LOVE by Kelley LeVeque. I love reading self-help and motivational books! Any recommendations? Send them my way.
Q: If you could have any job in the world, what would you chose and why?
A: I love what I do now and I don’t plan on ever changing it! I just plan on expanding and growing our brand!
Q: If you could tell your 12-year-old self one thing, what would it be?
A: I would say, stop comparing yourself to the those around you. You are so unique and amazing in your own way, in the classroom or on and off the field. “No one is you-er than you”, so just be yourself and remember that you can do anything you set your mind on.
