Tony DiCicco Honored by ECNL and NWSL’s Boston Breakers

RICHMOND, VA (July 19, 2017) – It was with the greatest sadness that we learned of the passing of Tony DiCicco. As the Head Coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team, Tony DiCicco was a World Champion, Olympic Gold Medalist and member of the Hall of Fame. Beyond those honors, he was a pioneer in the women’s game in the United States. Most importantly he was a mentor and friend to so many in and out of the game of soccer.

His club FSA SoccerPlus was an inaugural member of the ECNL. His passion for the advancement of the women’s game at all levels in this country cannot be understated. It was with this thought in mind that we honored Tony DiCicco with a 30 second moment of silence prior to the kick-off of each teams’ first game at the ECNL National Playoffs in Rockford, IL on June 22, 2017. We thank all that participated in honoring this great man.

The National Women’s Soccer League’s Boston Breakers also honored DiCicco during their match with Chicago Red Stars, in which DiCicco’s former teammates served as honorary team captains. Many of DiCicco’s family, friends, teammates and players were in attendance to honor him. Thank you, Tony, for your contributions and commitment to the game.
