ECNL H.E.R. Coaching Scholarship Recipient | Amanda Forrester
RICHMOND, VA (October 30, 2015) – As part of the Amazing Young WomenTM campaign, the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) has announced the 2015 recipients of the H.E.R. Coaching Scholarships (Health & Education Resources). Ten women from across the country were chosen from a deep pool of talented applicants to continue their coaching development and receive a scholarship to pursue a USSF “D” or “E” coaching license. The ECNL launched this program specifically for ECNL Alumni and aspiring female coaches.
The program aims to encourage top current or former female players to enter the coaching profession, encourage continuing education within the profession, and continually raise the level of play in youth soccer.
Amanda Forrester is currently coaching for Texas A&M Corpus Chrisi as the Assistant Coach, a role she recently accepted. Amanda played club for Heat FC, current ECNL Member Club, and is a University of Nevada Las Vegas alum. “I aspire to give back to the game that opened so many doors for me.” said Forrester. “I hope to continue my coaching education and to one day start my own youth soccer club, providing an opportunity for fellow female coaches to join me.”
The ECNL caught up with Amanda to learn about her journey this past year, the coaching education course she attended, and her future aspirations.
Q: Why did you become a soccer coach?
A: I decided to become a soccer coach because I remember the positive impact that my coaches had on all aspects of my life and I want to have that type of influence within my community.
Q: Describe the Coaching Course you took this past summer:
A: My D Course experience exceeded my expectations. I went in thinking, I played at a high level I can totally handle this…which was true, but I was able to learn so much about formation and how to really build an appropriate training session.
Q: What did you like about the course?
A: I really like the instructors, working with the UNLV men’s coaches was both beneficial and fun as that is my alma mater. They gave great feedback and helped all of the coaches better their drills.
Q: How has taking this course affected your coaching career/outlook?
A: This course was beneficial in helping me get my current college coaching position. Being able to say that I have a license makes me feel confident, and like I am taking steps in furthering my coaching passion.
Q: How has the ECNL influenced you?
A: ECNL has influenced in an indirect way. Being able to see youth players perform at high levels and work towards their soccer dreams is remarkable, and ECNL makes that all possible. The players I train all say, “I want to play in college.” They all know that in order to fullfill that goal they need to strive for ECNL level teams within the club. The constant fight to be the best is so motivational and I am so glad I am a part of it.
Q: If you could have one super-power, what would you chose and why?
A: My dream super power would be an unlimited supply of funds to provide organizations that help people in need.
Q: Snapchat or Facebook?
A: Hand Written Letters…going old fashioned
Q: What is one thing most people do not know about you?
A: I am over the moon excited about the New Gilmore Girls coming out on Netflx
Q: What is your favorite emoji?
A: I love the baby elephant; I want one the exact size of the Elephant emoji
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Q: Define “Success”:
A: ANY finish line that you cross due to a previous dedication in commitment, truth, and hard work!
Q: What is your favorite month of the year and why?
A: December because it’s the close of a years worth of accomplishments, and the time to think about the year to come.
Q: If you could tell your 12 year old self one thing, what would it be?
A: Do the work early, the extra work, and it will all pay off
Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
Amanda, you are an Amazing Young Women. Thank you for sharing your story and we look forward to following you as you continue your coaching career.
