ECNL H.E.R. Coaching Scholarship Recipient | Pippa Whitehand
RICHMOND, VA (October 6, 2015) – As part of the Amazing Young WomenTM campaign, the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) has announced the 2015 recipients of the H.E.R. Coaching Scholarships (Health & Education Resources). Ten women from across the country were chosen from a deep pool of talented applicants to continue their coaching development and receive a scholarship to pursue a USSF “D” or “E” coaching license. The ECNL launched this program specifically for ECNL Alumni and aspiring female coaches.
The program aims to encourage top current or former female players to enter the coaching profession, encourage continuing education within the profession, and continually raise the level of play in youth soccer.
Philippa “Pippa” Whitehand is currently coaching for Pleasanton Rage, an ECNL Member Club, where she played youth club soccer. The ECNL caught up with Pippa to learn about her journey this past year, the coaching education course she attended, and her future aspirations.
Q: Why did you become a soccer coach?
A: I have played soccer my entire life, and I absolutely love the game. I want to give back because it molded me into the person I am today.
Q: Describe the Coaching Course you took this past summer:
A: The course was very informative, and it was fun to interact with other coaches who are in similar shoes. I took away a lot of new information based on different techniques that my fellow classmates/coaches used during the sessions.
Q: What did you like about the course?
A: The biggest asset from the course was starting a professional relationship with the directors and learning from their experiences. I consider them mentors now, and plan to stay in touch with them as I continue to grow as a coach.
Q: How has taking this course affected your coaching career/outlook?
A: I want to continue to get my National “A” License, and see where it takes me. My goal for now is to stay in youth club soccer and progress with different age levels.
Q: How has the ECNL influenced you?
A: Growing up playing in ECNL was life changing. Everything from traveling across the region and country, to each ECNL competition was top notch and fun.
Q: Define “Accountability”:
A: Sticking to your goal and achieving what you want to do in life
Q: What is one thing most people do not know about you?
A: I was born in England
Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: My parents because they have always supported me
Q: PB&J or Grilled Cheese?
A: PB&J but depends on the day
Q: What is your favorite emoji?
A: (Duck in Eggshell)
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: London to see my family
Q: What is your favorite day of the week?
A: Friday
Q: If you could have one super-power, what would you chose and why?
A: Teleportation so I can bypass traffic and avoid travel delays
Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: Laying in bed all day and watch netflix
